State Senator Steve McClure
State Senator Steve McClure (R-Springfield) represents the 54th Senate District. He was sworn into office on January 9, 2019. Steve attended Springfield High School. Later, he went on to attend college at Arizona State University in Phoenix, where he earned two bachelor’s degrees in four years—one in history and the other in political science.
After college, Steve returned home to attend the University of Illinois at Springfield. There he earned a master’s degree in political studies while working as a legislative intern for the Illinois Senate Republican Caucus. During that time he analyzed budgets on the appropriations staff. From there, Steve went on to obtain a law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in Indiana. 
After graduating from law school, Steve accepted a position as an assistant state’s attorney in the Sangamon County Juvenile Division. From there he went on to serve in the Sangamon County Felony Division. 
In 2017, Steve resigned his position as assistant state’s attorney to run for state senate and was elected in 2018. In the Illinois Senate, he serves as Assistant Leader and Assistant Floor Leader for the Senate Republican Caucus. Steve is also the leader for Senate Republicans on criminal law issues and the Republican leader on the Criminal Law Committee.

 

 

State Representative Brad Halbrook

Brad Halbrook is a small business owner, farmer, and family man.  From 2012 until 2015 he served as State Representative in the 110th District.  He is now serving in the 102nd District.

Brad is fiscal and social conservative.  In 2012, he became just the 9th State Legislator to turn down the underfunded and overly generous General Assembly Retirement System pension.  He helped start the trend that now has 33 current legislators outside the system.  Brad has also been a champion of governmental transparency at both the state and local levels.

Brad will continue to advocate for government reforms, reduced taxes, and job creation legislation.

Brad and his wife Linda live in Shelbyville.  They have two children.  They own and operate a small farming operation.

County Treasurer Erica Firnhaber

“My commitment is to make the Shelby County Treasurers’ office more efficient & reduce overhead, thus lowering the costs of county government to property owners.”

Erica Firnhaber has the right qualifications to serve as Shelby County Treasurer. Firnhaber has worked previously in the title and abstract business has conducted business in 12 counties in the region. She attended Florida State University where she majored in business and played on the golf team with a golf scholarship. She and her two children run and manage a small business.

Erica Firnhaber will lead by example. Her top priorities will be to:

  • Protect taxpayers by aggressively looking for ways to reduce costs
  • Making the Treasurer’s office more open and transparent to taxpayers
  • Making the Treasurer office more accountable to Shelby County

County Coroner Brad Phegley

Brad Phegley says he is running for Coroner because he wants to give back to the community that has given so much to him over the years.

 “The office of Coroner is not about politics,” Phegley said. “It is about providing an important service to the people of Shelby County. I have taken those calls in the middle of the night. I am the right person for the job because of not just my experience as Chief Deputy Coroner, but also because of my many years in law enforcement.”

 Phegley worked nearly 27 years for the Illinois State Police and 15 of those years was spent working investigations. In addition, he served two and a half years as a Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy and for the last seven years, he has served as the Chief Deputy Coroner in Shelby County.

“When that phone rings at 3 am, experience matters,” Phegley said. “My pledge to the people of Shelby County is to do the job with the same kind of hard work and professionalism I have provided in my more than 30 years in law enforcement.”

 Phegley is a United States Army Veteran. He graduated from Shelbyville High School and he has an Associates degree from Lakeland College. He is a Master Mason and Shriner and he is a member of Windsor Christian Church in Windsor.
